“Water, sanitation and hygiene” training organized for several national Red Cross in the caribbean

06 December 2022

The Regional Intervention Platform for the Americas and the Caribbean (PIRAC) of the French Red Cross organizes a WASH training on the site of Lake Gaschet in Guadeloupe, from December 6 to 9. This event brings together volunteers and employees of several national Red Cross in the region: Haiti, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, as well as the French Red Cross in the territories of St. Martin, Guyana and Guadeloupe.

The aim is to strengthen the emergency response capacities of the humanitarian actors withing the Red Cross Movement in the Caribbean through training and capacity building of their volunteers and staff, who are on the front line in case of disaster. The training welcomes a total of 17 people to strengthen their technical capacities as well as their knowledge of the “Water, Hygiene and Sanitation” field.

Participants are trained to use the Veolia Foundation mobile drinking water production units stored in PIRAC’s warehouses in Guadeloupe and Martinique. This type of mobile unit was used by the PIRAC in its response to the water crisis following Tropical Storm Fiona last September 2022 in Guadeloupe. The training is organized within the framework of the “Ready Together” program, funded by the French Development Agency, Interreg Caribbean and the Regional Council of Guadeloupe
