Raising awareness of seismic risk: over 1,700 students in Guadeloupe to be sensitized over the 2022 – 2023 school year

04 July 2023

Through its seismic risk awareness operations, PIRAC is helping to further increase risk awareness in Guadeloupe, particularly among young people, through the experience of real tremors. The deployment of the seismic simulator at the Collège Front de mer in Pointe-à-Pitre on June 19 and 20 rounded off these awareness-raising activities in schools.

During this activity, a teaching kit was also made available to educational teams. It enables the facilitator to make the link between the description of the natural phenomenon, the feeling of tremors, and safety instructions.

The simulator, provided by DEAL, has been deployed in 9 schools on mainland Guadeloupe over the past eight months. These actions have reached 1,720 students. These activities are due to continue from the start of the new school year in September 2023, in order to reinforce seismic risk preparedness and awareness among young Guadeloupeans.
