The French Red Cross Regional Intervention Platform for the Americas and the Caribbean (PIRAC) has organized the launch ceremony of a new risk management project, the READY 360° project, funded by INTERREG Caribbean, in the presence of its two official partners, the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), as well as many National Red Cross Societies from the Caribbean and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
This regional project aims to build greener resilience in the Caribbean by strengthening disaster preparedness and response capacities at individual, family, business, and institutional levels.
This event will was an opportunity to introduce various activities that will be implemented from 2023 to 2025 in the Caribbean zone as part of this new project, including:
- The development of first aid expertise dedicated to the Caribbean innovative risk management solutions for a greener Caribbean
- The promotion of knowledge and practices in social and environmental risk management.
Workshops were also organized to enable players from the various territories involved in the project to coordinate their actions.
Hurricane season in the Caribbean : emergency actors are mobilized
First forecasts for the 2023 hurricane season were announced by the University of Colorado (USA), estimating 13 tropical storms and 8 hurricanes, including 2 major ones. Several Caribbean actors in disaster risk management were meeting in Guadeloupe at the initiative of the French Red Cross Americas Caribbean Regional Response Platform and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
As part of the READY 360° project financed by INTERREG Caribbean, this workshop was organized to strengthen coordination in emergency preparedness and response, to bring together the actors of the Red Cross Movement in the Caribbean zone.
